Inez Eileen MacDonald
May 11, 1934 – January 22, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and loving gratitude that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved aunt and sister, Inez MacDonald, on January 22, 2025. Inez lived a life full of purpose, adventure, and love, leaving a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
A devoted and compassionate nurse, Inez dedicated her life to caring for others, offering comfort and healing wherever it was needed most. Her profession wasn’t just a career but a calling, and her kindness and generosity touched countless lives. Inez was a woman ahead of her time and her career paired well with her adventurous spirit, leading her to travel the world, explore new cultures and create unforgettable memories. From bustling cities to small villages, she cherished every experience and every connection she made along the way. Early on in her career, Inez worked as an RN for the Canadian Armed Forces while stationed in Germany. It was there she obtained her driver’s license while practicing her driving skills on the German autobahn – a highway without speed limits – that contributed to her confidence on the road and her finely tuned lead foot! During the 1960’s Inez also worked at King Edward VII’s Hospital in London, England. As a favorite hospital of the Royal family, she was one of the few honored nurses to receive an invitation from the Queen to have afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace.
Inez’s nursing career was all-encompassing and included being a surgical nurse (head nurse of several operating rooms), director of nursing in several hospitals and nursing homes, an international nursing recruiter, and a nurse practitioner in northern communities in Saskatchewan and Alberta. In Canada, Inez nursed in Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. World-wide, besides nursing in England and Germany, she spent 11 years in Saudi Arabia and only returned to Canada when the Gulf war broke out. She sparked the love of travel in many of us after seeing her incredible photos from all over the world, including the Philippines, Taiwan, and Egypt.
To her family, Inez was more than an aunt – she was a source of wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love. Her stories, kindness, generosity, and encouragement will remain with us forever, a testament to the incredible life she lived.
Inez is lovingly remembered by her sister, Muriel Young, and her sons, Lanson, Mark, and Bradley; her brother Victor Leo MacDonald (Karen), and his two daughters, Lisa and Monica; her sister-in-law, Diana MacDonald; and many nieces and nephews, who cherished her deeply. Inez was very close to her youngest sister, Joan and she shared a special bond with her nieces Jasmin and Tara and her nephew Lindsey, who will dearly miss her and forever treasure the time spent with her.
Inez was predeceased by her parents, Roderick and Margaret MacDonald; her sister Joan (Louis) Neefs; her brothers: Norman (Belle) MacDonald, Hector MacDonald, and Leonard (Jane) MacDonald; her brother-in-law, Robert Young; and many other close family members.
We would like to take this time to thank all those who have helped us at this difficult time, especially the caring staff at Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook, SK. Not only did you make her years there joyful, comfortable, and inclusive, your compassion and professionalism helped us immensely through the last days of her life and we sincerely appreciate it.
