It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Derek Stanley Kenneth Wichorek at Royal University Hospital on September 6th 2025. Age 54, born on July 1, 1971 in Saskatoon. His is survived by his wife, Sheena-Lynne Wichorek, his daughter Bentleigh Mercedes Wichorek, his brother Eugene Wichorek, Eugene’s wife Jodi Wichorek & his neice Jordan Wichorek. Derek was adopted by Stanley & Justina Wichorek where he grew up on the Wichorek family farm in Weekes, SK. Both of Derek’s parents have already passed on.
Derek had a passion for anything sports – he loved to cheer on his favorite teams. He loved a good golf game, kayaking, listening to music, fine clothes, tv, playing on his phone and the comradeship of good friends. He loved his animals too, horses, cats & dogs & spent many a time with their companionship.
Derek spent many years working in the Sheet Metal Trade and was currently working for Thorpe Brothers Limited and was a member of Union Local 296.
Upon graduating from Weekes high school, Derek went on to attend the University of Regina, afterwards he then moved to Calgary, AB, where he met his long term wife, Sheena-Lynne. After many years in Calgary and one beautiful daughter later, he eventually moved back to Saskatchewan to Prince Albert where he has resided for over twenty years.
In the late fall of 2024 Derek fell ill and after a few misdiagnosis it was finally determined to have heart failure. He fought valiantly against his illness and we had great hope that he would pull through. Unfortunately fate had other plans. After complications to his heart failure lead him to be admitted to the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Derek suffered a stroke and he eventually succumed to his illness.
He will be greatly missed by his friends, family & pets. He may be gone, but will never be forgotten. May he now rest in peace.
We wish to thank all the staff & Doctors at the Royal University Hospital for the exemplary care and attention that was given in his final days.
Derek’s remains will be cremated by Gray’s Funeral Chapel and the family will hold a celebration of life at a later time. Anyone wishing to donate in his name we would like to request the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Diabetes Foundation Canada be considered.
