Hugh Fredrick Williams passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday October 7, 2010 at the Melfort Hospital.
Hugh was a remarkable and talented man. He was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on May 11, 1927 and became a teacher after finishing high school. Hugh taught children in Ardill, Mossbank, Assiniboia, Estevan, Rosetown, and Prince Albert. He loved music, and transmitted that love to many of his students over his forty years of teaching. He, himself, was a life-long learner and inspired that in others. Many people will remember Mr. Williams for the magical melodies he spun from his silver sax. Hugh also enjoyed model railroading, remote-control airplanes, model shipbuilding, motorcycles, and go-carts. He was a capable tailor, dabbled in upholstering, was fond of reading and puzzle making and had a particular affinity for anything electronic. Many people relied on Hugh's ability to repair their equipment and no one understood the computer as well as Grandpa Williams. Several friends adopted Hugh as either their Dad or Grandpa, seeking out his wit and wisdom over the course of their lives. Hugh was a man of quiet faith, who loved his family dearly. He was a loyal and dedicated parent, grandparent, and friend. The void he leaves is immeasurable. Hugh was predeceased by his wife Edith, an infant daughter (Melody Lynn), his sister Gwen, brothers Owen and David, nephews Scott and Doug Williams, his sister-in-law Dorothy Wilson and her husband Murray, as well as his sons-in-law Mart Schnedar and Grant Harnett. He will be greatly and sadly missed by his children Wendy Harnett and her family: Colleen Morgan, Patrick (Gloria) Harnett, Melony (Brad) Driedger, Tammy (Jason) Stetski, Jacob (Joyce) Harnett, and James (Arlie) Harnett; Brenda (Joseph) Kernaleguen, Paul and Hugh; Carolyn (Ben) Yablonski, Cari-Lynn, William and Benson; Kathy Williams and David Williams, as well as his great-grandchildren (Danae, Natalie, Amy, Kyla, Isaiah, Jenna, Michael, Liam, Raelynn Joel, Shayna, Meg and John), nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Brieux Roman Catholic Church with Father Jim Kaptein and Father Manh Nguyen as celebrants. Memorial contributions, in memory of Hugh, may be directed to Canadian Cancer Society and/or Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Melfort Funeral Home Ltd. of Melfort, SK. 752-2714. www.melfortfuneralhome.com
