Hugh Banks passed away peacefully at the Whispering Pines Care Home in Canwood on March 18th, 2014. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He married Helen Frenette in 1960 and proceeded to fill the house with a noisy bunch of children.
Hugh worked as a mechanic in Debden, in the logging industry, and then ended his career as a millwright at the Big River Mill. He spent most his life on the family farm he was born on and loved.
Hugh was an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper and outdoorsman. As much as he loved the camaraderie of hunting with his brothers and friends in his younger days, later in life he was equally thrilled to see the beauty of a moose crossing the field in front of the house.
Hugh loved a good game of cards. Nothing pleased him more than to have his house filled with friends and family visiting and sound of cards shuffling, well other than when he won!
We will miss his willingness to help anyone in need, his fun loving, teasing nature, and his absolute love for his family.
Hugh leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 53 years, Helen, his children: Pauline Banks (Edward Kendall); Debbie Sinnett (Tim) and children: Caitlin, Daniel, Kellsey; Sharon Knodel (Don Embrey) and children: Stephen (Andrea) and daughter, Kathleen; Michael (Amber) and children, Kienan & Deklan; Kristy and children, Athina & Jaxson: Kelvin Banks (Trish O’Neil-Banks) and son: Ben (Jaime); Brent Banks (Donna Brunet) and children: Brennan & children: Layla & Kaeden; Breana (Chase); Leanne Banks (Nolan Fleck) and children: Robert, David, Sarah, Nikolas; his siblings: Doreen McGregor, Dale (Louise) Banks, Don (Sharon) Banks, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Hugh is predeceased by: his parents, Bob and Jean, his granddaughter, Shauna Dumais, his siblings, Jackie, Lawrence, Yvonne, and Violet.
A Celebration of Life was held in Hugh’s honor on Saturday, March 22nd, 2014 at the Big River Legion Hall Big River, Saskatchewan.
