Hubert George Eugene Gunville, known by everyone as “Chick” passed away at the age of 71 on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at Pineview Terrace Care Home after a courageous six month battle with cancer. Chick was born on November 28, 1948, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to Myrtle “June” and Hubert “Bert” Gunville. He grew up in Prince Albert where he married Brenda, his soulmate. They were married in 1969 and started their family by welcoming Ron, in February 1970 and Trevor, in July of 1972. Chick started work at a young age doing various jobs until 1968 when he was hired by Weyerhauser. He started in stores, completed an apprenticeship, and eventually became a pipefitter. Chick worked for over 35 years at Weyerhauser until he was able to retire. His retirement did not last long, as those of you who knew Chick could have predicted! He began pipe fitting in Fort Mac followed by Vanscoy. He then moved on to drive truck for Dmyterko, Meeks, and lastly with Ruszkowski’s. I am sure many of you have memories of seeing Chick driving around in his truck with that cigarette! As much as Chick loved to work, he loved his family and his grandchildren even more. He spent countless hours watching his grandchildren play various sports including hockey, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and dance. Sports were a big part of his life, both as a player and a coach. He spent many years coaching numerous kids in hockey, including both of his sons. Chick enjoyed summers at the lake, visiting on the deck, around the fire, and taking his family and friends out for boat rides – as long as it wasn’t too windy! After losing Brenda in 2017, he decided to sell the cabin at Cochin. He then enjoyed spending his summer weekends quading with friends and family. Chick enjoyed family vacations taking a cruise, visiting Disneyland, Mexico, and L.A.; not to mention the countless places traveled for hockey or ball tournaments. Chick loved to spend his early mornings on his deck followed by meeting his family or friends for breakfast. In the evenings he would be one of the first to arrive at the Raider games, where he would meet and greet all the people he knew. When there wasn’t a Raider game, he could be found enjoying the live music performances with friends at the Casino Lounge or dancing (he even took lessons) at the Army and Navy. He will be greatly missed by: his son, Trevor (Celena) and their children Keanan, Jada and Kalen; his daughter-in-law, Sherry and children Reed and Taryn; his sister, Lorry (Ken) Scriven; his brother, Lenny (Lynne) Gunville; his sister, Lynn (Bob) Locke; his sister, Liala Herzog (Lionel); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Chick was predeceased by his wife, Brenda Gunville and his son, Ron Gunville. We will all carry memories of him. A Private Family Service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2020. Family and friends wishing to send online condolences are welcome to visit www.beaulacfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Beau “Lac” Funeral Home, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director, Prince Albert, SK 306-763-3322.
