He enjoyed many years puttering around his shop and helping the grandkids with whatever they were building, or rescuing them with the tractor after getting stuck while sledding.
Howard restored a 1530 McCormick Deering tractor that he purchased around the same time as the farm to break the land, which he then donated to the Vintage Power Machines Museum. Howard was predeceased by his two sons, Stanley and Clarence; his parents Paul and Gertrude Ernst and his father and mother in-law Henry and Alice Miller.
