HERMAS “HERMAN” LAURIN
Herman Laurin, age 82, beloved husband of Laurette Laurin, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28 from River Park Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Margaret Ferchuk will officiate. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29 from St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 1505 – 13 Street West by Father Travis Myrheim. Herman is survived by his loving family: his wife Laurette (nee Dufour); three sons Greg (Sandy), Richard, Phillip (Valerie); 9 grandchildren Mellisa, Morgan, Latisha, Danica, Jennessa, Casandra, Troy, Tobia, Care; 3 great-grandchildren Stephan, Mayrn, Johnathon; two sisters Rosalie (Len) Fallows and Yvette Lischka; as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by: his parents Joseph and Jeanne Laurin; in-laws Raoul and Jeanne Dufour; sister and brother-in-law Neil and Patsy Nikolaisen; brother-in-law Nick Lischka and nephew Wayne Nikolaisen. Herman was born on September 30, 1930 at the Holy Family Hospital and grew up on a farm near Bodmin, SK with his two sisters. He moved to Prince Albert in 1948 due to his job. He started working at the Victoria Union Hospital doing the payroll and also as an orderly for a total of 20 years. Herman’s family describes him as a very close, caring and devoted person with a huge capacity for acceptance. Herman enjoyed gardening, curling, cooking and took an art class in which he produced four paintings Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter scenes. He had a rare blood type which enabled him to give transfusions when needed especially when the “Blue Babies” were born. He was an active and valuable member of the church, sang for many years in the church choir and volunteered freely of his time. Herman had been a resident of the Herb Bassett Nursing Home for 20 years. Interment will take place in the Garden of Gethsemane, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that those wishing to place memorials may do so to the Adult Day Care at the Herb Bassett Nursing Home. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wayne Timoffee, Funeral Director.
