Herbert William Gillies
(December 25, 1947 – August 13, 2011)
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Herbert William Gillies on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the age of 63 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debbie; his children, Debbie (John) Doell, Diana (Terry) Franc, Donavon (Moneca) Gillies, Mandy (Rami) Zabanah, Rhory Gillies; stepdaughters, Janette (Aarron) Hindman, Jennifer Swartz; grandchildren, Nathan, Timothy and Lindee Franc; Matthew, Lyndon and Calen Gillies; Christian and Hailey Zabanah; Kendra Swartz and Baden Hindman. Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Donald (Emma), Norman Gillies; his sisters, Deanie Margach, Beverly (Les) Arno; and numerous nieces and nephews. Herb was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Dorothy Gillies; brother, Gordon; his first wife, Lynda Steele; and niece, Helen Gillies.
Herb was born and raised in Prince Albert, SK. His early years were spent working in the trade industry and later becoming a teacher with SIAST until his early retirement. Herb was a creative/artistic person. Many had the opportunities of enjoying his woodworking and greenhouse projects. He was also known for his enjoyment of the outdoors by going camping, fishing, golfing and many years working with the scouting organizations. Time spent with his family and going for coffee with his friends were precious moments. To many of his nieces and nephews he was known as “Uncle Ferbie”.
A Celebration of Herb’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Park Funeral Chapel (311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon) with Pastor Kelly Wiebe officiating. The interment of Herb’s cremated remains will be held at a Graveside Service at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens, Prince Albert, SK (take Hwy #2 and is 2 miles South of Prince Albert on West side of Highway) on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.
Donations may be made in his memory to either the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation, 279 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 101 – 440 Second Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2C3.
