1924-2012
Herbert Schop, age 87, of Prince Albert, SK, passed away on Monday April 16, 2012. All who loved Herb will assemble at St. David’s Anglican Church, 500-24th St. E. at 1:30pm on Thursday April, 19th to celebrate his life with Reverend Norbert Haukenfrers officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of the Last Supper at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. A lunch and time of fellowship will follow the interment in the church’s basement. Herb is survived by daughters Debbie LaHaye (Greg) and Cathy McLean (Ron); his daughter-in-law Sandra Schop; his grandchildren Keith LaHaye (Jamie), Jennifer LaHaye (Billy), Randy LaHaye (Candice), Andrew Bissky, Becky and Steven McLean, Michelle and Adrian Schop, Inicko Martin; his great grandchildren Jeremy LaHaye and I.J. Martin. Also survived by sisters Alice Mazurkewich, Olive (Tom) Mazar, and Jean (Maurice) Ritchie, and brother Milton Schop; nieces Peggy Simenson and Jean (Wayne) Antaya and many great nieces and nephews. Herb was recently predeceased by his loving wife, Gladys Schop; his son David Schop; his parents Jacobus and Sabina Schop, and brother Orville (Judy) Schop. Herb was born in Prairie River, SK and later attended public school in Tisdale. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving as a Seaman Sub Detector on 2 corvette ships from 1942-1945. He left for Prince Albert to work at Burns Meats, while attending barber school. In 1949, he met and married the love of his life, Gladys Parkinson. He founded Esquire Barber Shop, and they had 3 children; David, Debbie and Cathy. To gain a better life for his family, he began work at the Prince Albert Penitentiary as a Security Guard, being very well respected in his position, a.k.a. Secret Squirrel. Herb’s passions were fishing, lock smithing, gardening, travelling, card playing, the casino, and playing with his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of St. David’s Anglican Church and a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca.
