It is with much sadness the family of Henry Casper Mette announce his passing on November 25th, 2021, in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 81 years. Dad was born on May 9th, 1940, in Humboldt, SK to Casper and Katherine Mette. Henry was their only child.
Dad met the love of his life, Mary Ackerman, at a dance at the Verndale Hall. They were married on November 15th, 1961. They lived in and around the Bruno district where they farmed. They had three children Bev, Duane, and Gail. They moved to Prince Albert in 1971 and lived there for 7 years before they purchased their hobby farm, just outside of Prince Albert. In 2000, they moved back to Prince Albert, meeting new friends with every move.
Dad worked for Dashchuk Homes, Hubel Insulating, and then started working for the City of Prince Albert, where he worked for 21 years before retiring. Dad and his cement finishing partner Rick Hodgson also picked up a few odd jobs here and there. Dad loved cement finishing and woodworking, but his biggest passion was his horses. He would often use them to work around the farm, as well as often wagon and sleigh rides.
Dad loved to tease people and said it very colorfully as he saw it. Dad and Mom were always together, whether working, camping, booze cruising, making sausage, or preparing Christmas dinner. In March when we lost Mom, a big part of Dad left as well.
Henry will be loving remembered by his children Bev Gollan, Duane (LeeAnn) Mette, Gail (Mike) Lucyshyn; he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Raylene (Jarrod) Gabriel, Leah (Jeremy) Mardell, Kera (Andrew) Styles, Catlin Mette, Garret (Kayla) Mette, Justin (Ashley) Lucyshyn, & Cody Lucyshyn; Big Poppa’s great-grandchildren Linken & Hunter Gabriel, Kayne Styles, Arya & Mary Mardell; his in-laws Joe (Marilyn) Ackerman, Bernard Ackerman, Barbara (Stan) Lozinski; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Henry is predeceased by his wife Mary Mette; his son-in-law Scott Gollan; his granddaughter Sarah Gollan; his parents Casper (Katherine) Mette; his in-laws Mike (Catherine) Ackerman, and sister-in-law Kaye Gartner-Jasken.
We would like to thank Angie and the staff at River Breeze for the excellent care they provided Dad. A Funeral Service will be held for Dad at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church on December 17th, 2021, at 11:00 am. Lunch will be served following the service in the church basement.
