It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our tante, auntie, cousin, & friend. Hélène passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 27th, 2021, in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 92 years. Hélène was born in Argenteuil, France on April 16th, 1929. She came to Canada in 1948 with her parents, Marie-Louise & Wladislas Kadziolka, and her older brothers Jacques and Casimir. They settled in Saskatchewan, where they had a farm. This is where Hélène discovered her love for gardening and animals. She met the love of her life George Cochet, and they were married on March 28th, 1972. They built a home on a farm in St Louis SK, and together they nurtured their land. They created gardens, a koi pond, a beautiful tropical solarium, and an amazing outdoor entertaining space which included a stone oven and outdoor fire pit. Every tree on the property was lovingly planted by Hélène and George, she always held great pride in her property.
Hélène was very close to her brother Jacques’ children. They would take family vacations to her property every year throughout their childhood. They have fond memories of camping in the motorhome at Waskesiu Lake, going for lunch at fancy restaurants, & eating her delicious home-cooked French cuisine. Despite the distance, Hélène remained close to her loved ones in France. She also had many friends and neighbors who became family to her over the years where she resided in St. Louis, SK. Especially important to her were Mac & Dorothy Galloway & family. They were always there for Hélène offering friendship, love, and support no matter what life brought. Family and friends were very important to Hélène, and anyone who visited was always greeted in the French tradition of four kisses, two on each cheek. She looked for any opportunity to host and celebrate with others, she was known for her delicious bread, fresh garden fruits & vegetables, and her famous crepes & waffles.
Although Hélène was tiny in size, she will always be remembered for her great strength, determination, and independence. Hélène had a very large heart that extended beyond her family and friends to include the love she had for her many cats. She often joked that she didn’t pick them, they picked her as they would show up at her door and she couldn’t turn them away. She treated all life with love and compassion, a true attribute that will be missed deeply by everyone who knew her.
We will always love and miss you. Au revoir. Nous vous aimons beaucoup, beaucoup !!!
She is survived by her stepson Dwight Cochet; her nieces & nephews Richard Kadziolka (Mandy), Jacqueline Wotherspoon (Neal), Mona Francis (Tony), Marc and Luc Kadziolka, and families.
Hélène is predeceased by her parents Marie-Louise & Wladislas Kadziolka; her brothers Jacques (Terisita) and Cas Kadziolka; and her husband, George Cochet.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by the Cochet family, neighbors, and friends from her hometown community of St. Louis, SK.
Our family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring and dedicated staff at Mont St Joseph Home. We are so grateful for the kindness and support that was given to our Tante Hélène over the past few years, & especially during her last few days there.
