It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and Baba Helen Stankowski (nee: Slonski) on February 23, 2015 with her family by her side. Helen was born in the Samburg District on May 6, 1926. She was raised on the family farm one of twelve children. As the oldest girl in the family she had to take on many responsibilities at a very young age. Growing up through the depression she learned the value of reusing and recycling – something that she practiced until her very last days. In 1949 Helen married Adam Stankowski and together they had five daughters. They operated a mixed farm till 1971 when Helen’s Multiple Sclerosis required them to move to the city of Prince Albert. Even though she suffered many hardships as a result of this disease she still found ways to make the best of things. Helen was a very strong woman who never complained about her lot in life. Helen enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, needle work and spending time with family and friends. Raising her children gave her the greatest joy in her life. Later on visits with her grandchildren were the highlight of Baba’s days. She always considered the needs of others before her own. Through her strong faith and commitment from her family she was able to cope and improve the quality of her life. In 2006 she became a resident of Mont St. Joseph where she participated in many activities while making new friends over the years. The family is very thankful for the care and attention that was provided to Helen until her recent passing. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Helen is survived by her daughters Carolyn, Lorraine, Iris Honsberger and Debby (Lorne) Adams; her three grandchildren Nathan Honsberger, Lindy Adams and Nicole Adams (Cody Novotny); one brother Tom (Gloria) Slonski; one sister Sophie Lupichuk; sisters-in-law Rose Slonski, Vicky Slonski and Helen Slonski; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Adam; her daughter Darlene; son-in-law Curt Honsberger; parents John and Maria Slonski; brothers Joe, Pete, Frank, Adam and Mike; sister Pauline Kalinowski; three siblings in infancy; nephews Bobby and Clarence Slonski and brother-in-law Harry Kalinowski. “She was a gentle caring soul“ Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 589 – 9th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Reverend Father Tuan Doan.
