Helen Longworth

After a brief illness Helen passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the Victoria Hospital at Prince Albert SK. Born in Rosetown, SK. Helen attended the University of Saskatchewan at 16 years of age. After graduation, she had a career in social work before marrying her university sweetheart in 1957. Helen is survived by her daughter, six sons and thirteen grandchildren; Pat (Penny) – Elizabeth & Valray; Tim (Carla) – Brock & Jory; Kieran (Jo-Anne) – Abby & Jillian; Maureen (Roger) – Erin & Colin; Robert (Zsuzsa) – Danny & Niki; Joel (Sandra Williams) and Ted (Deborah) – Talise, Keegan & Callum; her brother Dan Ogle (Lori) and her sister Mildred Pettigrew. She was predeceased by her husband Valray Joseph Longworth in 2002; her father Lewis Ogle; her mother Elizabeth Ogle; her brother William Ogle; her sister-in-law Dorothy Ogle and her brother-in-law King Pettigrew. In addition to raising her seven children Helen remained active in her church, and in community service organizations such as Kinettes, K40 and Meals-On-Wheels. She also remained actively involved in supporting the daily living needs of a number of disadvantaged individuals in the Prince Albert community. Helen enjoyed her bridge group, was an avid crossword solver, and pursued her love of gardening. She traveled widely to vacation, and to visit family across Canada and overseas. She grew seven strong children with the maxim “Have Fun, Work Hard, Use Your Head” Helen took particular joy in all her grandchildren. Grandma Hano was a fount of wisdom, a loving friend and the Canada Day Parade Master along the boardwalk, on the annual family trip to fish camp. Her guidance, love and humour will stand us all in great stead. All are welcome to join in prayers offered for Helen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday January 21, 2011. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 with celebrant Reverend Father Travis Myrheim. Both services will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1505 – 13 Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Many sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Victoria Hospital ICU.
