Helen Grace Knudtson
November 4, 1928 – December 19, 2016
With great sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, Helen Grace Knudtson, late of Prince Albert, SK at the age of 88 years. Helen was born in Claytonville, Sask., to Fred and Mary Pastuck on November 4, 1928. Helen passed away peacefully on December 19th, 2016 at Pineview Terrace in Prince Albert SK, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her five children: Olga (Neil) Menard, Stephanie (Peter) Ruszkowski, Marie (John) Milner, Peter Abramyk, and Annette Abramyk; her 15 Grandchildren; and 22 Great-Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband: John Abramyk; and her second husband: Jack Knudtson. Helen began life on the farm with her parents and six siblings and remained all her life a professed “farm girl”. She married John Abramyk and together they raised five children until John’s untimely passing in December 1961. After being widowed, she sold their family farm and moved with the children to Prince Albert. She began working in the fabric and yarn department at Kresge’s for many years, a job to which she was well suited as she was an accomplished seamstress. She also loved nature, was a gifted gardener and was especially fond of the birds her garden attracted. Mom was thrifty, hardworking and had a life-long belief: “Living is a verb, and verbs require action. You have to do it yourself”. Our family would like to pass along our sincere gratitude to the staff at Pineview Terrace, and Dr. Priya Sriram for their wonderful care of our Mom during her illness. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society. A Service and Celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 – 1:30 pm at MacKenzie Chapel, 130 9th St. E, Prince Albert, SK. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium. Brian and Bev Stobbs, and Tracy-Lynn Switzer, Funeral Directors. 306.763.8488 www.MacKenzieChapel.ca
