Helen Heffernan

Helen May Heffernan(nee Simpso) passed away peacefully on March 8, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 14, 1923 in the Winton district. She married the love of her life, Jack Heffernan in 1941. They were blessed with eleven children. Because of her strong faith, Helen lived her life of true joy in a spirit of service. She was devoted to her family, friends, neighbors and anyone in need. She was active in the community and belonged to many service clubs and Bible-study groups. She could see the positive in the worst situation and always had a smile on her face. She was a wonderful cook and will long be remembered for her fabulous meals, often for over fifty people. She was extremely generous even to strangers. For many years she sent daily emails to over seventy family and friends accompanied by a bible verse. She also kept in touch with her grandchildren on Facebook. Helen is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Margaret (Jack Jr’s widow) of Birch Hills and ten of her children: Howard (Diane) of Fort McMurray, Michael (Dolly) of Regina, MaryAnn (Curtis) Hammond of Prince Albert, Pat ( Irene) of Prince Albert, Linda (Archie) Tilford of Birch Hills, Paul (and Julie) of Calgary, Bob (and Jeanette) of Birch Hills, Helen (Darryl) Collister of Calgary, Harry (Stacy) of Regina, and Jerry (Brita) of Melfort; her 57 grandchildren: Jack Jr.’s children: Ryan, Clay (Cyrie), Andy (Chantal), and Roxanne (Trevor Stevenson); Howard’s children: Doug (Nancy), Lee (Trent) Obrigewitsch, Glen (Rose), Cheryl (Stephen) Warren, and Amy Heffernan; Michael’s children: Shawn, Kelly (Lenna), Tara (Trevor Hein), and Chris (Alisa) Heffernan; MaryAnn’s children: Gord (Bernadette), Kathy Kacuiba, Curtis (Marriann), Christine (Travis Brunn), Amanda, Michael (Kassie), Adam, and Danny Hammond; Pat’s children: Steven (Ina), Natalie (Joe Iaquinta), Joseph, Grant (Elizabeth) and Anthony Heffernan; Linda’s children: Julia (Jason) Kawa, Mark, Jennifer (Matthew) Braaten, Michelle (Liam) Shaw, Rachel (Scott Njaa), Rebecca, Luke, and Lisa Tilford; Paul’s children: Stacy (Joe Newton), Dawn and Matthew (Denise) Heffernan; Bob’s children: Casey (Kristina), Corey, Doyle, Erin, Colleen, Caitlin, Lindsey and Travis; Helen’s children: Jordan (Karolina), Dustin, Jared and Tim Collister; Harry’s children: Connor, Kyle, John, and Kale; Jerry’s children: Tanner, Brayden, Reece and Ethan Heffernan; her 42 great grandchildren: Clay’s sons: Tyler, Justin, and Logan; Andy’s children: Jaylynn and Ashton; Roxanne’s daughter: Zoey Stevenson; Doug’s daughter: Annie; Lee’s children: Nathan, Eve, Seth, Lara, Jonas and Caleb Obrigewitsch; Glen’s sons: Val and Andrea; Cheryl’s children: Elliot and Abigail Warren; Shawn’s daughter: Kelsi; Kelly’s daughter: Hanna; Chris’s son: Owen; Gord’s son: Norman; Kathy’s children: Matthew, Melissa and Kale Kacuiba; Curtis’s children: Mason and Hudson; Michael’s children: Lucas and Alexis; Steven’s sons: Ben and Max; Natalie’s son: Luca; Julia’s children: Ben and Avery Kawa; Jennifer’s children: Callie and Hannah Braaten; Stacy’s children: Shari and Josh; Matthew’s children: Clare and James; Erin’s daughter: Brooke. She is also survived by her sister Jean Sandness. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Jack Heffernan, her son Jack Jr., her brothers: Vern and Lyle Simpso, and her sister Ione Kooy. The Prayer Service will be held on Friday, March 11 at 7:00 PM at St. Mary St. Anne church in Birch Hills. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Church in Prince Albert. Following lunch at St. Joseph’s hall, interment will take place at Winton Cemetery.
