1917 – 2012
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her loving husband Al; her parents Florence and Albert George “Bert”; her brothers Herb and Mait; her sisters Ila (George) Palmer, Cora (Douglas) Finch and Vera Corbett; her nephew Russell Maskell. Hazel is survived by her six children Lloyd (Louise) Waddell, Joyce Gilmour, Bernice Learmont, Marie Mitchell, Jim (Diane) Waddell and Brian Waddell; her sister-in-law Betty Maskell; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mom married her childhood sweetheart Al and they were married for 68 years until his passing in 2007. They spent 42 years going to Murray Point – a cottage Dad built in his spare time and on weekends. Mom was very proud of her garden and flowers, both in town and at the lake. Mom was also very involved in the community. She attended classes at the Prince Albert Technical School and achieved her papers for a Senior Nurses Aide and spent 13 years with the Victoria Hospital. She received a Certificate of Appreciation for her involvement in the activities of Northern Housing Development (1973) Inc.; Mom was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the Canadian Red Cross Society of Sask for her valued services. She was a charter member of the Calvary United Church Women. Mom was President of the Victoria Lions Nursing Home Auxilary (1974) which in 1980 was changed to the Herb Bassett Auxiliary. Mom was Grand Mistress of the Ladies Orange Lodge Association of Sask; received a certificate from the City of Prince Albert for her work for children through the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association; she received certificates from the St. John Ambulance Association for taking part in the reunion of past and serving members of the Prince Albert Nursing, ambulance and combined divisions to celebrate 35 years of service to Prince Albert and district. Mom was a special volunteer for the United Way. She looked after foster children both in Regina and Prince Albert on and off for 22 years. Mom loved to knit and crochet – I am sure quite a few have one of her blankets. She also made glass bead doilies – something everyone got when they came to visit her. She continued making her doilies up to a year ago. The family would like to thank the staff at the Loewen Personal Care Home for giving Mom such loving care during the past five years. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date in the Garden of the Old Rugged Cross, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Don Moriarty, Funeral Director
