Hazel Annie Crawford (1918 – 2013)

Cherished Mother, Grandmother , Great Grandmother and Friend to Many

Hazel Annie Crawford was born on October 7 1918 on a homestead in the Stanleyville District, which was about 20 miles to the south east of Prince Albert. Her sisters were Nell, Eva and Nora. Her brothers were Jack, Harold and Bill. Hazel and her brothers and sisters attended Russelville school which was about three miles walk from the McKeen homestead. The time at school held very many pleasant memories for Hazel and siblings.

Hazel married Buster Crawford in 1938 and they were blessed with four children; Marjorie, Bob, Joan and Russell. They initially lived in Prince Albert then moved to Meadow Lake, where Buster had a Vulcanising Shop. Hazel separated from Buster in Meadow Lake in 1949 and later divorced him. Hazel and the kids moved to Prince Albert for some time. Hazel went to stay for a while with her sister Eve, in Ottawa and acquired training in accounting at a business school. She returned to Prince Albert and worked in accounting for Burns Foods. When Burns Foods shut down Hazel moved to Kelowna, where she has resided until the present.

Hazel will be remembered as a loving, kind, caring mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She worked so hard to provide for her family, under quite trying circumstances. She was always trying to help her kids and grand kids. She was like her parents and exhibited all the same excellent characteristics of her parents, Annie and Sandy McKeen, who were always kind and helpful and looked after their families with care and concern.

Hazel was very intelligent and exhibited a very strong character. Even in her nineties she would do things like critiquing Harper’s budget. Hazel loved politics and sports, especially baseball. She knew most team players by name.

Hazel was a borne-again Christian and loved Jesus with all her heart. She loved to read her Bible. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and great grandmother. She lived a long and full life on this earth and is now in Heaven with Jesus. For the last few years this has been her greatest desire. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 7th at 10:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
