HARRY “LORNE” HOBBS. Harry “Lorne” Hobbs, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away at his home in Prince Albert on Saturday, New Year's Day, January 1st, 2011, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. Lorne was born to Burt and Etta (nee Procter) Hobbs on the farm at Spruce Home, SK on October 2, 1934. He grew up at Spruce Home and attended Centerville school. While growing up on the farm he learned many skills that would serve him well throughout his life. He met his future wife Jacqueline Jennett at a young age and they later married at St. Alban's Chapel in Prince Albert on December 29, 1959, recently celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary. Lorne's first places of employment were at Morash's Garage, hauling cattle with his GMC one ton truck, then later in 1954 he ventured away from home to Waskesiu where he worked for a building contractor, at the Waskesiu Golf Course and then at the Lakeview Esso garage which he managed during the summer months for 13 years. He remained in the garage business in Prince Albert working for Brian Withers and Ernie Breadner. In time he became co-owner and operator of Parkway Esso which was sold in 1978. From here he went to the Pulp Mill/Weyerhaeuser Canada retiring in 1996. Lorne and his family lived in Prince Albert until 1986 when they took up residence in a new home on the farm. He had been farming the land for many years before this. Living here for the next 24 years brought great joy to him. His yard was a source of great pride and provided a wonderful view for those passing by. In 2006, Lorne and his family received the “Hobb's Century Family Farm Award” for having been owned and farmed by the same family for 100 years. Sports were a very important part of Lorne's life whether it was as a participant or as a spectator. At various times in his life there was hockey, baseball, curling, golfing, croquet, football, bowling, hunting, playing cards, camping, boating and fishing. He received his share of trophies and plaques and can boast about two holes-in-one on the golf course. Lorne always played to win no matter what he did. The camping and fishing trips will leave life long memories for each member of his immediate family, extended family and long time friends. We were all safe as long as Lorne was around and looking after things. Lorne is survived by his loving family: his wife Jackie; his daughter Karen and Roy Pegg of Saskatoon, grandson Joshua Pegg and wife Jessie Edwards of Saskatoon and granddaughter Kendra Pegg of Toronto; his sister Doreen McGregor of Brantford, ON; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Jo and Herman Nichols of Ponoka, AB, Tracey and Marilyn Jennett of Saskatoon and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Robert Tracey Hobbs (1961); his parents Burt Hobbs (1982) and Etta May Hobbs (1986); his brothers-in-law George Miller (1978) and Duncan McGregor ( ); his in-laws Tracey (1992) and Olive (1975) Jennett and his sister-in-law Marily Joyce (Eyberson) Jennett (1988). A Family Graveside service will be held at the Garden of Sermon on the Mount, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. The family invites family and friends to join them for a luncheon in the Arbor Lounge of River Park Memorial Chapel at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5 to honor Lorne's memory. (Please enter from the south double doors facing the parking lot). It is the family's request that those wishing to place memorials may do so to the St. Christopher Church in Christopher Lake.
