Harold Joseph Slack died peacefully in Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on his 47th wedding anniversary, April 27, 2015 at the age of 72. Harold is survived by: his wife, Barbara (nee Oster); his four children Ed (Angela), Terry (Kim), Loralee Wirtz (Roger) and Patrick (Connie); his sisters Louise, Kate (Bob) and Barb (Doug); his brother Frank, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by: his parents, Frank and Beatrice (Kane) of Moose Jaw, his brother James of Calgary; his father-in-law Alois Oster of St. Walburg; and his mother-in-law Helena (Ambrose) Schaan of St. Walburg. Harold was born on January 25, 1943 in Moose Jaw, SK to Frank and Beatrice Slack. He gained certification as a master Journeyman Carpenter in 1972. Harold met Barbara in St. Walburg and continued dating when Barb attended Business College and Harold worked for the DNR out of Prince Albert. They married in St. Walburg in 1968 and moved to Prince Albert where they grew their family and established roots in the community. Harold worked for several employers in the area, establishing a reputation as a builder who would challenge his crew and deliver a quality product. Harold and Barb brought four children to their family and were blessed with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Harold will be remembered by his children as a kind and patient mentor who not only encouraged them to follow their dreams, but also actively helped them understand their passions by including them in his construction projects. Before retiring, Harold and Barb built their dream home on their property at Christopher Lake with the assistance of all the kids. Harold took great pride in teaching his children the basics of construction through hands-on experience. The home Harold and Barb nurtured became their home base for hosting family and planning trips and excursions, a passion they shared. Harold was not just an accomplished carpenter, but also a true builder of buildings and communities. Harold was involved in construction of the East End Hall and Rink in Prince Albert and was involved in building a community as a scout leader and as a hockey and baseball coach. Harold was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Mark’s Parish, assisting with building maintenance, event planning and delivering communion to those who could not attend mass. Harold’s reach extended far beyond the local area as he engaged in his passion as a Ham Radio operator (VE5 BCS), touching people across the province, the country and the world. Harold would use this medium as an opportunity to brag about the accomplishments of his immediate and extended family. A funeral is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2 at St Mark’s Parish in Prince Albert, with a reception to follow at the parish hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Harold’s life.
