Grant William Graham passed away peacefully at the age of 59 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on Friday, November 23, 2018. Grant was pre-deceased by his father Harold Graham and brother Kurt Graham. Grant is survived by his mother Jean Graham, his wife Shannon and his two boys Chris Klyne and Cam Graham; his brothers Scott (Teg, Kaiza, Georgia) and John (Rhonda, Mason, Kasia, Karissa), Kurt’s children (John, Shauna, James), his father-in-law Ron Klyne, his sister in-law Taryn Svenson (Mike), brothers in-law Mitch Klyne (Bev), Shawn Klyne (Sheila) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many lifelong friends.
Grant was born on February 15, 1959 in Uranium City. The youngest of four brothers, he was often at the whim of his older brothers’ ideas, leading his aunts and uncles to joke that it was a miracle he made it through childhood. The family moved to Montgomery Place in Saskatoon in 1962 to establish family roots. They had a wonderful, adventurous upbringing among the many children of this veteran’s community. Many of the friendships Grant forged in Montgomery continued throughout his life.
Grant graduated from Mount Royal Collegiate in 1977 and went on to attend Mount Royal College in Calgary, where he graduated with a 2-year Certificate in Radio and Television. He began his career as a sales representative for CKBI Radio in Prince Albert before spending the majority of his career in the directory publishing industry. From 1985 -1996, he worked for Directwest/Sasktel as a premise rep. In 1996, Grant and Shannon moved to Prince Albert to start the first ever competitive phonebook in Saskatchewan called Get It Pages. Through hard work and great entrepreneurial drive, they expanded their business into 3 additional cities in the province before selling it to Yellow Pages Group Canada in 2008.
Grant spent 29 very happy, amazing and adventurous years with Shannon, the love of his life. From day one they shared a mutual passion for travel and adventure and ventured out in just about every possible direction through Canada and the U.S., always looking for their next great experience, traveling on their own, or whole-heartedly welcoming a caravan of friends to join along.
Grant was an avid outdoor enthusiast his entire life. He especially enjoyed his time spent camping and quadding with family and friends. Due to Grant’s love of the outdoors, he and Shannon purchased a campground in Cochin, Saskatchewan, in 2009 where they spent the next 9 years excitedly upgrading and revamping this beautiful facility for seasonal campers.
Grant’s pride and joy were his two boys. Anything adventurous was especially meaningful to them, and many memories were made together in the great outdoors.
Grant was the instigator of many firsts amongst his peer group. Whether it was having brunch in the bush in the middle of winter, a last-minute overnight canoe trip, an original game of “hit the can” in the desert, he was always initiating something original, exciting and gut-rolling-in-the-aisles fun times.
Everyone who really knew Grant knows that when they began any political debate with him, it would usually end in a loud, heated discussion. Grant loved sharing his Conservative political views and was always up for a rousing political debate.
To nobody’s surprise, Grant was every niece and nephew’s favorite uncle. Each one shared a special relationship with their uncle, as they all knew that he was always someone who would help them, no matter what sticky situation they were in. He helped kids with homework and always kept in touch with all his nieces and nephews on their birthdays, special occasions or just to say hello with a wise crack text.
Grant was a true genuine salt of the earth guy who will be missed dearly for his positive and adventurous outlook on life and his huge heart for everyone who was fortunate enough to have been a part of his life.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:00pm on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Joseph RC Parish, 260 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Father Tuyen Vu and Pastor John Graham officiating. Immediately following the service, a Celebration of Grant’s Life will be held at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre, East/West Hall, 815 Exhibition Drive, for family and friends to reminisce and share their memories.
