Grant Edward Lederhouse
December 6 1957 – July 8, 2025
Grant was born to Phil and Ruby Lederhouse on December 6th,1957 in Prince Abert and passed away late in the evening of July 8th, 2025 from a short but valiant battle with cancer.
Grant attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School for his elementary years, the Academy for junior high and finally St. Mary’s for high school. Grant graduated in 1975 and was awarded the Governor General’s medal for his exemplary marks. At the University of Saskatchewan, he earned a degree with honours in Chemistry, and a Bachelor of Education. In his final Physics exam, Grant was very proud to receive 100%. His first teaching contract was at St. Vladimir’s College in Roblin, MB where he worked from 1981-1991. He returned to Saskatchewan and earned his Computer Science bachelor’s degree which led to a position at SIAST in Computer instruction. Grant retired in 2014 due to his failing eyesight and to help care for his mother, Ruby.
Grant’s love of learning was apparent throughout his entire life. Grant listened to a variety of podcasts and enjoyed learning something new. He also had a love for computers and he and his brother-in-law, Mark were often building or discussing systems. When he first held his grand xephew, he sang the periodic table of elements as a lullaby.
Grant loved to read and especially loved the science fiction / fantasy genre. At the top of his favourites were JRR Tolkien and Terry Pratchett. Over the last ten years, Grant began to write short stories to the delight of us all. The bulk of the stories followed the adventures of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, following the death of Pratchett in 2015. These stories have been published online and have captured his tone beautifully.
Grant was a huge sports fan and boasted a massive collection of sports books and cards. He particularly loved the Saskatchewan Roughriders and directed his passion to build a database of the CFL teams (https://www.cflapedia.com/ has now been passed on), and create a well received computer football game. Because of Grant’s collections, both the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes were able to enhance their archival records. As a thank you, the Grey Cup made a special stop to his home following the Montreal Alouettes’ win in 2010.
Grant’s total loss of vision was difficult and challenging at times however he became a master at manipulating his computer and phone with adapted technologies. Every tap and gesture was memorized and executed masterfully so Grant was independent for most everything in his everyday life. Siri helped track his daily 10,000 steps around the neighbourhood (or inside his condo, in inclement weather), and he continued to enjoy baking, including his signature cherry square – which was divine.
Grant is survived by his brother, Bryan, sister, Lynda (Mark); nephew, Jaryn (Susan), niece Sarri; grand xephew, Rowan; grand niece, Annika; and several cousins from both the Rankin and Lederhouse families. He is predeceased by his parents, Phil and Ruby Lederhouse, all grandparents, aunts and uncles and several cousins. He will also be deeply missed by his SIAST family – Nancy, Betty, and Deanne and their spouses.
It was Grant’s wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Prince Albert Food Bank – 64 11th St. East, Prince Albert SK, S6V 0Z9, https://pafoodbank.ca/ or to a charity to aid those less fortunate.
A service to celebrate Grant’s life will be held at Grays Funeral Chapel, 575 28th Street West on August 20th, 2025 at 1 pm. There will be an opportunity for friends to share memories during the gathering.
