Grace passed peacefully on the evening of January 1st, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on August 6th,1925 on the farm north of Weldon, SK to Hans and Thora (Thorsen) Hansen. We, as a family, joyfully celebrated Mom’s 100th Birthday this past summer.
Mom attended Windermere School from Grade 1 to 8. Unlike her older brother, she spoke English upon starting school. Norwegian was spoken at home and by most of the community. She obtained her high school diploma at the Weldon High School. Shortly after obtaining her Grade 12, she began working as a teller at the Kinistino Bank of Nova Scotia. Grace would on numerous occasions recount her experiences working at the bank.
Mom met our father, Glen Love, at a dance at Liberty Hall and that meeting resulted in a marriage on July 5th, 1950, at her Aunt Anna’s farm. Four children were born Marion Thorsen, 1954, Leslie James, 1956, Pegi Anne, 1964 and lastly Ray Allen 1966.
Mom worked side by side with our father. Milked cows, fed the livestock, pitched hay until her children were old enough to do it. She grew huge gardens and we picked the weeds! Come August canning and freezing the produce would begin.
Mom would sew all our clothes. Many an hour would pass as she mended our dad’s long johns. Grace’s baking skills were appreciated by the family and community.
Mom’s life changed drastically when Dad died suddenly at the age of 64 leaving Mom to deal with the farm and all that was entailed in its operation.
Grace leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, her grand children Marion, Aapak and Nuq Arvaluk; Leslie, Crystal (Love) and Dave Otto, Jason Love and Shannon Oberg, Pegi Love and Greg Rowell, Grace and Cole Rowell and Ray, Dylan and Kyle Love. Her great grandchildren Savannah Love, Amiya Oberg, Nicholas and Matthew Otto.
Grace was predeceased by her parents Hans (1957), and Thora (1968); her husband Glen, (1985); and her brother Harold (1994).
A family memorial service will be held for Grace at a later date.
