It is with peace, love and joyous memories that our family announces the passing of a spiritual and kind mother, Nana, daughter, sister, auntie, niece and friend. On July 1st, 2015 Grace LaFayette, daughter to Homer and Evelyn LaFayette, joined the spiritual realm with honour and dignity. Mother chose Canada Day to transition because her wishes were that all her loved ones and friends not mourn her death but rather remember her through celebration, dance and laughter. Mom didn’t view the world as black and white, right or wrong, or as good or bad. Instead, she viewed people and all things without prejudice and judgment, and she did the same with this disease. Mother embraced cancer and chose to learn as much as she could from this terribly painful disease. Her faith, spirit and love for life allowed Grace to work with cancer in this way. Never through this process did mother use self pity as a way of coping. Instead, she approached each day with gratitude and shared love through her infectious smile. As this relentless disease took its toll on Mother’s body, her faith, soul and spirit grew even stronger. Until one glorious morning she chose to surrender to the Creator’s glory and become one with the universe. Mother did God’s work on earth. She loved Mother Nature. Grace was born in a farmer’s field just outside of Rosetown, SK, and all through her life she found solitude with becoming one with nature. She absolutely loved attending sweat lodges, walking at Little Red Park, and picking sage and sweet grass near her family homestead in between Herschel and Fiske, SK. Another love of Grace’s was being with and caring for children; especially her grandchildren. However, she loved ALL children. Grace loved the innocence and magic of children which invigorated her spirit. Grace LaFayette was also an amazing healer. She helped to support people with her voice, hands, and spirit, but mom’s true gift was her ability to work with stones and used the energy from stones to relax and energize peoples’ bodies and souls. But most of all, Mom loved to enjoy life through laughter, music and dance. Grace loved Jazz Festivals and Ness Creek. I fondly remember watching mom at Ness Creek Festival dancing with her shoes off in the sand and smiling at the Northern Lights. She was a beautiful woman both in appearance and in spirit. Grace LaFayette touched many peoples’ lives here on earth and she will continue to do so in heaven. Mommy’s memory will be cherished by many including Gerry Hurton (partner & friend); Corey Teeter (son), Keri Teeter (daughter-in-law), Bailee Brewster (granddaughter), Reece Brewster (grandson), Tristian Bruce-Teeter (grandson); Blair Teeter (son), Larrisa Lamont-Teeter (granddaughter); Paul LaFayette (son), Merrin LaFayette (daughter-in-law), Ty LaFayette (grandson), Mya LaFayette (granddaughter), Isaiah LaFayette (grandson); Ruby LaFayette (sister); Darlene Hunter-LaFayette (sister), Blair Hunter (brother-in-law); Esther LaFayette (sister); Joy LaFayette (sister), David Stott (brother-in-law); Harvey LaFayette (brother); Dale LaFayette (brother); and by all her nieces, nephews, uncles, and aunties, but most of all “You” her friends who she viewed as extended family. Please join us in the celebration of Grace’s life on Saturday, July 25th at 3:00pm at Fiske Hall (twenty minutes west of Rosetown on Hwy 7). All are welcome!
