Gordon Christopher POCHA

1934 – 2016

With a great sense of loss I have said goodbye to my darling husband.  His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are also suffering a great loss.  Gordon passed away on May 20th at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 81 due to a serious injury after a brave month long struggle during which he endured three weeks at the Edmonton Firefighter’s Burn Unit.  He fought a tough fight but unfortunately he lost the battle.  Gordon is survived by his loving wife Sylvia of 60 years; his children: Chris of Cranbrook, Lawrence (Helen) of Saskatoon, Cindy Pocha-Atwood (Allan Atwood) of Cranbrook, Melanie (Jan) Bell of Martensville and Mark (partner Karen) of MacDowall; his grandchildren: Nicole (George) Villeneuve of Prince Albert, Ryan Pocha of Saskatoon, Shalene Atwood and Candace Atwood (Matt Campbell – fiancé and his son Lukas) of Cranbrook, Tyler Schewaga Bell and Ian Bell of Martensville; his great grandchildren: Owen and  Rylie Pocha of Saskatoon and Tayler Villeneuve of Prince Albert; his sister Clela Lorensen of Cranbrook and many nieces, nephews, cousins plus a wealth of loyal and caring friends.  Gordon was predeceased by his father Roland; mother Catherine (nee Bell); stepfather Andrew “Andy” Robertson; brother and sister-in-law Russell and Joyce;  sisters and brothers-in-law Mary and Norman Whitford, Helen and Bill Fischer, Freida and Melvin “Bud” Lorensen, Noel Lorensen (brother-in-law) and Jason Schewaga (son-in-law).  Heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and caregivers at Edmonton Burn Unit and St. Paul’s Hospital.  Dad, we love you and we will miss you always.  Graveside Interment will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lindsay Cemetery after which everyone is welcome to join the family for a  Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. at the MacDowall Hall after which a light lunch will be served.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
