It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gordon Mathers announce his passing on April 9, 2026. After a prolonged battle with health issues, he is finally at peace.
Gordon was born in Prince Albert, SK on October 11, 1947. As a child he developed a love for pigeons that carried throughout his life. He used to catch pigeons under the train bridge, build cages, and feed them in their home in Nordale. He married his wife Carol on January 25, 1969. They saved up and in 1979 they bought land west of Shellbrook in the community of Cameo where they moved their family of 5. Gordon was a hardworking man and spent years turning those rolling hills into a full farm with many types of livestock, all while working full-time at Beaver Lumber and commuting to Prince Albert every day for work. In 2011 they sold the farm and retired to Holbein where they started over again and built an acreage full of his precious pigeons, some of which went on to win great prizes and racing competitions over the years.
Gordon will be remembered for his quick wit, his infectious laughter, his unstoppable memory capacity and his caring personality, which many friends and family have enjoyed over the years.
Gordon was predeceased by his mother and father Stella and Harry Mathers; his sisters Thelma(Andy) and Doris; his brothers Billy(Ethel) and Derek.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol(nee: Vermette); his daughter Deanna(Robin); his son Jason(Lee-Ann); his daughter Jamie(Jason); his grandkids Kove, Titan, Kira, Conner, Jessica, and Jordan; his great grandchild Huckson; his brothers Henry(Darlene), Jim(Judy), Doug(Phyllis) and Ron(Shelly); sister-in-law Emily; brother-in-law Albert; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Nordale Hall, Nordale, SK.
