The family of Gordon James Grassick sadly announce his passing on February 21, 2021. He was a man of utmost honesty and integrity.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Kathy and his children: Michael (Pam) of Prince Albert, SK and their children, Shaelyn (Braxx) and Brianna (Tyrell); Bradley (Karen) of Prince Albert, SK and their children, Sara (Blayz) Verge, Ben and Gage (Bryce); Arlene (Mike) Dobrohoczki of Middle Lake, SK and their children, Riley, Kale (Hannah), Landon and Cara; Audrey (Darcy) Deck of Saskatoon, SK and their children, Zachary (Amanda) and Tanner (Dailen); sisters-in-law: May (Arthur) Ife and family; Marj (Jim) Stewart and family; Marilyn (Ernie) Anderson and family; nephews: Gordon Pocha and family; Don (Sheila) Pocha and family; Doug (Barb) Pocha; special family friends: Bruce and Delphine Rapley and family of New Zealand; as well as numerous neighbors and friends.

Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Grassick; parents-in-law, Michael and Albina Major; sister, Myrtle Pocha; nephew, Lawrence Pocha; and his niece, Barbara Colby.

Gordon James Grassick was born November 14, 1934, to Joseph and Mary Grassick of Steep Creek.  He started school at Saskatchewan Forks School in 1940.  During his school years he participated in track and field events and was successful in many competitions.  He also played many years on fastball teams.  Gordon loved to share stories of his slough hockey games.  He played with a group of teammates from the community and had successful broomball teams of which he was very proud.

Gordon met Kathleen Major in 1955.  In 1960-61, Gordon worked at the Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert while still farming.  Gordon and Kathy married on August 18, 1962.  Gordon built a home for them in the same yard where he grew up. Gordon and Kathy had four children Michael, Bradley, Arlene and Audrey. Gordon was involved in his children’s lives and often took other kids along to hockey and ball games.  He continued to farm fulltime and had his family work alongside him throughout his life.  Gordon was proud to have his sons, Mike and Brad, continue and take over the farm.

Gordon was a member of the Saskatchewan Forks 4-H Beef and Grain Club for several years.  Later he became the leader for over 30 years.  Because of Gordon’s interest in 4-H, his children started in the local Beef Club.  The local Achievement Day was held at their farm for many years which became a community event from preparation to clean-up.  This created lasting memories and friendships.  Gordon was greatly involved in the community. He was involved in the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, served on Hall and Sport Club committees and the East Central School Board for several years.

Gordon loved to pick berries.  He especially loved blueberry picking. We will miss him scouting out the “better patch”.  After retiring, Gordon was able to spend many hours at home with his loving wife, enjoying anyone who came by to visit, have tea or play cards.  Their yard and garden gave them so much pride and enjoyment. Gordon was a huge help to Kathy in the kitchen preparing fruit and vegetables, slicing meat and washing dishes.

Gordon had a great love of playing cards.  Every card game was so important to him.  His fondest memories are from around the table surrounded by family, friends, food and cards.

He has always enjoyed visits from family and friends and will be forever missed. Family gatherings will never again be the same without Grandpa G. at the head of the table.

Due to COVID restrictions a private family funeral service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021, at Beau ”Lac” Funeral Home, Prince Albert, with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating. Interment will follow at the Steep Creek Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Rose Garden Hospice.
