1940 – 2018
Glen Gary Fraser Thorburn “Charlie” was born in the Shellbrook District on October 7, 1940 to Ruth and James Thorburn. He passed away at the Parkland Integrated Health Centre, Long Term Care Home on November 28, 2018, at the age of 78.
Glen attended school at the Parkview School until Grade 8. He then attended Hawkeye School where he also worked as a janitor. Glen bought his first .22 with the money he made working as a janitor at the school. He enjoyed riding/racing horses to school, and was an avid hunter and trapper. Glen loved to work in the garden they grew every year. He had a sense of humour, and liked to be funny and sassy with everyone he met.
Glen married Carol (Marshall) Thorburn on December 6, 1969. They had their first child, Trevor in 1970 with Dawn following along in 1972. Glen had many different occupations over the years from construction to working in sawmills, and last but not least his position as maintenance engineer with the Town of Shellbrook until he retired in 2005. Glen received the meritorious service award from the Town of Shellbrook.
Glen is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Thorburn; his two children, son Trevor (Melanie) Thorburn, and daughter Dawn (Richard Adams) Thorburn; his four grandchildren Nolan Thorburn, Isla Adams, Lesley Neufeld-Sinclair and Tyson Neufeld-Sinclair; his two great-grandchildren Hunter Gamble and Braxtyn Gervais; his sister in-law Marjorie (Victor) Jerome; his special Aunt Jessie Hanchar; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Glen is predeceased by his parents, James and Ruth Thorburn; his brothers Jim Thorburn, Allan Thorburn and Jack Thorburn.
A Celebration of Glen’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the Great Room at the Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook, SK, with Pastor Scott Manly officiating.
