James Gerald Wilson, late of Prince Albert, SK passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert on Jan. 31, 2017, at age 101. Gerald was born on the family farm in the Star City district on Jan. 3, 1916. He attended Norwood School and studied Field Husbandry at University of Saskatchewan. He farmed north of Tisdale until the mid-60s when he moved to selling insurance. He became a life underwriter with Mutual Life of Canada, which later became Sun Life. It is remarkable that he earned income from the company until his death. He was a champion chess player and continued to win at chess against the computer into his 90s. He married Marjorie Hoggard of Edmonton in 1947. They raised four children in their home in Tisdale, SK. Gerald will be lovingly remembered by his wife; his children Ruth Griffiths, Paul (Joyce), Charlotte and Grant; his grandchildren Gregory Griffiths, Andrea (Skot) Keedwell, Gwyn (Blair) Pambrun and Carla Wilson and his great-grandchildren Rowan Keedwell, Tia-Marie Pambrun, Quinton Keedwell, Keller Griffiths and Nathaniel Wilson. Gerald was predeceased by his parents, James and Elizabeth; brothers Alexander (Marjorie), Kenneth (Cora) and Kaye and sister Margaret (Dick) Lewis and his half-brother Thomas. At the family’s request no service will be held. An internment will be held at Star City later this spring. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
