Gerald Magnus Thoresen
August 12, 1938 – August 18, 2013
Gerald was called home to be with his Lord after a long battle with Parkinson’s and a heart condition. He passed away peacefully at home. Gerald was predeceased by his parents Magnus and Dorothy Thoresen; his son Glenn Gerald Thoresen and his father-in-law Clarence Neff and mother-in-law Myrtle Neff. He leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years MaryAnn; his children Shelley (Derek) Dodge, Jennifer (Tyson) Bavle, Dawn (Johann) Rybalka; his grandchildren Victoria, Colby, and Liam Dodge; Kaytlin, Josh, and Luke Rybalka; his sisters Bernice Martin of Nokomis Florida, Iris (George) Heinrichs of Gronlid; his brother Bob Thoresen of London, ON as well as nieces and nephews. Gerald came to Prince Albert from Kinistino in 1955 to begin his apprenticeship as an electrician. Gerry worked on the PA Pulp Mill Construction and stayed on to work maintenance at the mill till 1975. He served as VP of the local 403 Pulp and Paper Workers union and served on the Health and Safety committee. He also served for many years on the Electrical apprenticeship board for the province. Gerry’s last job was as director of maintenance & housekeeping at the Herb Bassett Nursing home where he can be remembered for his dry wit and love of a practical joke. In his younger years Gerry was an avid hunter. For many years he held 2nd place Boone and Crockett North American record for Whitetail deer antlers. Many summers were spent at the family cottage at Candle Lake either above or below the water with family and friends fishing & spear fishing. Many afternoons or evenings were spent with friends “discussing” current issues. Gerry also was keenly interested in photography, electronics, and computer programming. Gerald loved his family and loved to travel to exotic locations and show his children new experiences. In later years Maryann and Gerry were able to escape the winter and spend time at their daughter’s home in Florida where they could again be adventurous, always finding new sites to visit. Gerald was a strong-willed, soft hearted man who was always ready to express his love for his family. We will cherish and miss his keen intellect and caring heart. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013.
