With great sadness the family of Gerald “Jerry” Tait announce his passing on August 13, 2020 at the age of 68.
Gerald “Jerry” Colin Tait was born on May 1, 1952, in Prince Albert, to Colin and Irene (Campbell) Tait. He was brought home to the farm, a place he loved. Jerry graduated from Tech High School, moved to Saskatoon, and took a welding course. He worked in Saskatoon for a few years and then got a job as a welding instructor at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary. Jerry moved back to MacDowell and farmed with his dad. Colin passed away in 1989 and Jerry bought the farm from his mom, where he then started to raise Horned Hereford cattle.
In 1996, Jerry met Jeanne Wilkinson and they married August 29, 1998. They always said Jerry was so easy he would inherit a ready-made family and he did!
In Spring of 1997, Jerry and Jeanne made the move back to the farm that he loved. In 2003, Jerry retired from the Penitentiary after 25 years. The first years were hard as they had drought and BSE. They survived it all and then Shane moved to the farm to help. In the last few years Jerry’s health was not great but he loved “Coffee Row” in St. Louis where he made lasting friendships.
On June 20th, 2020, Jerry was in a Side by Side accident. He was airlifted to Saskatoon, where he was found to have a broken neck and back. He never really recovered from his injuries and after some time his kidneys failed. Jerry passed away with his wife Jeanne, granddaughter Chassidy, and close friend ‘adopted daughter’ Rose by his side.
Jerry is predeceased by his father Colin Tait; his in-laws, Irene (Blanchard) and Joseph Guigon; and his sister, Judy Boyer.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne; his mother, Irene Tait; his children, Shane (Terra) Wilkinson, Cheryl (Gary) Nemish, Joey (Evelyn) Wilkinson; his much loved grandchildren, Chassidy Wilkinson, Tristin (Charlene) Wilkinson, Adrian Wilkinson (Kolton), Steven (Kelly Canton) Nemish, Keegan Nemish, Karissa Nemish, Gavin Ducharme and Lily Wilkinson; and his beloved great grandson Luke Wilkinson; his sisters, Wanda Boon, Shelly Tait and Linda (Roger) Chrislett; his brother-in-law, Elmer Boyer; his close friends adopted at heart, Connor Ash, Rose and Robert Quesnel and children, Leandra, Ethan and Mary; and his numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
A private family service will be held.
