It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald “Gerry” David Galloway 79 years of age on Wednesday, February 21st, 2024 in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. He is survived by his wife Betty of 55 years, his son Duane (Pam), his daughter Suz, three granddaughters, one great grandson, numerous nieces and nephews and many many friends. Gerry grew up in Melfort on the family farm and after marrying Betty in 1968 they lived and raised their family in Calgary and Saskatoon. They purchased a cabin at Emma Lake which eventually became their residence but Gerry and Betty also lived in Edmonton for a few years and then returned to his favorite place living at Emma Lake SK until 2016 where they returned to Saskatoon to live. They also spent many winters in Yuma Arizona. Gerry was first and foremost a builder and a creator. He was forever curious and would constantly think about how to make things better. The old adage of leaving things better than when you arrived applied to him and everything he did. He was totally self-confident in building pretty much anything especially out of wood and rightfully so. He built houses and commercial buildings through his career in construction throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta. In his spare time he also created everything from some of the first purpose made ringette sticks in Saskatoon, to cabinets, to wood turning almost everything, to horseshoe pits at Lac La Peche Lake, to log carving of bears at Emma Lake and anything else required to solve a problem or fill a need among family and friends. He certainly ‘put in the work’ that was required to get things figured out and ultimately done. Gerry loved camping, cooking bacon and eggs over the campfire, fishing, watching the Roughriders, Blue Jays, Oilers and Maple Leafs, sports, shuffling, horseshoes and playing golf. He was constantly moving and doing something and if anyone asked if you want to do something he always put up his hand. He had a tool for everything and was always lending a hand to anyone that needed it. Gerry also loved playing board games and cards. He created a number of different games through the years for family and friends to enjoy while having a beer and socializing. Over the last 25 years his body caused him to be in pain in many ways through a number of medical issues and he had suffered through it, and made the best of it, where many wouldn’t have. He battled and beat colon cancer twice and it ultimately won this last round. No matter what he still found a way to do many things including, building/renovating cabins, wood turning, carving, playing golf and fishing. Self-pity was not something he allowed himself to have. With all of the friends and family that he has touched and the many buildings and creations to remember him, he certainly accomplished leaving this world better than it was when he started! A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Arrangements entrusted to Mandi Wasylkowski – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
