Gerald “Gerry” Bick
1954 ~ 2024
It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my dear friend, neighbour, and adopted family member Gerald “Gerry” William Bick after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Gerry was born on January 27th, 1954, the second son of William and Alexandria (Hryschuk). He and his brother Walter lived together as bachelors in their family home for most of his life, with the exception of when he worked away as a drywaller. Gerry returned home for good and worked as a security guard at the Victoria Hospital. He loved the many meals and treats that he was gifted there by his colleagues.
I first met these brothers at the ball diamond. Both Gerry and Walter loved baseball and they were proud of their ball team’s accomplishments, especially at Nationals. Gerry also loved to golf. He and I golfed many rounds at Mark’s 9. I actually gave him his nickname, “Grandpa” Gerry, one day while golfing with him, and the nickname stuck (at least for me).
To my dear friend Gerry; we started out as acquaintances, found out we were neighbours, became close friends, and this friendship ultimately evolved into a family relationship.
If you knew Gerry (and Walter), you would know that they both liked to party. As Luke Bryan’s song says, “It’s Time to Take My (Your) Drunk A$$ Home!” Gerry, it was time for you to go ‘Home’ even though it broke my heart. I knew that God was calling you and you were ready to greet your mother, father, and brother, as well as my mother, father, and brother at Heaven’s Gate. A huge thank you is extended to the staff at the Rose Garden Hospice for all of their support.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents and brother.
He is survived by Holly Abrey-Hare and her family, his lifelong friend Glen Fiddler, his cat Elmo, as well as friends, neighbours, and cousins.
Although there will be no formal service, I invite you to remember Gerry (and Walter) in your own special way. Cheers my friend! Until we meet again, you will be forever in my heart.
