Georgina McHenry
May 14, 1943 – September 14, 2013
Georgina McHenry (Bassett) of Prince Albert, SK passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 14, 2013 after a spirited fight with cancer. Mom was born in Prince Albert to George and Elizabeth (Betty) Bassett on May 14, 1943. She married her high school sweetheart George McHenry 50 years ago, during which time they were blessed with four daughters. Mom obtained her real estate license and worked at the Credit Union, but soon discovered her heart was at home to raise and care for her family. During the early years, family time was spent cross-country skiing, berry picking, camping, and trips to the mountains. Later, Mom enjoyed fishing and reminiscing around the camp fire while at the Candle Lake family cabin. As her family grew with the addition of nine grandchildren, her role as “Grandma Gina” kept her active with babysitting, school concerts and sporting events. Her grandchildren have grown into unique and compassionate adults, which is a true testament to Mom and her commitment to family. Mom is survived by her long-time love, George McHenry; their children and grandchildren, Cory (Jim) Chad and children Taylor and Courtney, Tammy (Bart) Vick and children Jenna and Dustin, Melissa Bueckert (Kevin Koenig) and children Ryan, Allie and Sydney and their father Gord Bueckert, Susan (Cory) Donaldson and children Hannah and Kaitlyn and her father Derek Smith; her sisters Arlene (Gerry) Huber and Terry Barber; her brother Don (Wendy) Bassett; her sister-in-law Mona (Ted) Bassett; her brother-in-law Tom (Bev) McHenry; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents George and Elizabeth Bassett; her in-laws George and Dorothy McHenry; her sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Gordon Rutz; and her niece Anita Cochrane (Bassett).
