George Yungwirth (96) of Warman, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
He was born in Cudworth, Saskatchewan in 1927 and married Annette Detillieux in 1952. Together, they realized their lifelong dream of farming and raising their family, living in the Whitfield district, RM of Buckland for 63 years.
George will always be remembered for his passion for farming and keeping up with the latest technologies and farming practices. Together with Annette, they spent countless hours staying entertained with fishing, travelling the world, and living life to the fullest. Big game hunting was always something he loved to do, beginning with his Dad and brother as hunting partners in the early years, then his son and sons-in-law in the later years. He was a master “tinkerer” in his workshop, fixing anything and everything that was broken, and he particularly enjoyed woodworking and facing the many challenges that a “jack of all trades” could encounter.
George wore many hats throughout his long and well-lived life. His volunteer activities included: Buckland Volunteer Fire Department where he was a founding member (1969-2015), the Briarlea Rural Telephone Company (1966-1981), where he served as president, the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (Prince Albert District, 1951-1988), the Knights of Columbus (Sacred Heart Cathedral), and many other volunteer roles within his community and church.
Above all else, George has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his loving wife of 71 years (Annette), his six children and their spouses, Diane (Jim Miller), Vivian (Paul LaHaye), Leonard (Margaret Hordyski), Beatrice (George Regnier), Judith (John Campbell), Noreen (Phil Rapin), along with his 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Anthony (Adelaide) Yungwirth, Magdelina Bernier; brother-in-law, Marcel Roy.
George was a strong and quiet man with an undying love of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Memorial donations in George’s name can be given to Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 4 Ave W, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5H1. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the exceptional care he received from the doctors, nurses, and personal care workers at Diamond House in Warman. As well, to Father Peter Ebidero, for his presence in George’s life, and to the ladies of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Martensville, for their support.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Immaculate Heart Parish, 300 8th Ave South, Martensville, SK. Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
