It is with great sadness in our hearts that the family of George Paul Dore announce his sudden peaceful passing at the Rose Garden Hospice on August 25, 2026, at the age of 87.

George Dore was born on July 6, 1939, in Eldred, Saskatchewan, the fourth of five children. He grew up on the family farm and later moved with his family to Debden, where they operated the pool hall and barber shop. After high school, George began his career with the post office in Debden. From there, he transferred to Prince Albert. When the Turtleford office opened, George moved his family there and continued with the post office as postmaster. Eventually, his bilingual skills brought him back to his hometown of Debden, where he continued working as the postmaster until his retirement.

George met the love of his life Hilda Poirier and they married in 1968 in Debden. George built his first home on Guedo Avenue with the help of his father Ovila. It was here that they began their family, raising their son Raymond (1969) and their daughter Paulette (1970).

George loved the outdoors and enjoyed horseback riding, trapping, hunting, snowmobiling, skiing, cycling and gardening. He loved to tour around checking crops (he knew every farmer, their land and the kind of equipment they ran) and checking cattle for friends. He was always ready for an adventure.

George was known for doing everything with speed and for his willingness to help. His answer was always yes, followed quickly by, “What do you need me to do, and how fast do you want me to do it?” Actually, he rarely asked, “how fast”, we all knew it would be at hurricane speed.

Family and friends were at the center of George’s life. If he was invited to a family celebration and was well enough to attend, nothing would stop him from being there. He was a strong supporter of his community, and a familiar presence at hockey games, curling events, fundraisers, and coffee-row gatherings.

George spent his final years at Debden Heritage Manor. He continued to enjoy his family and friends, helping out the manor by fixing little things or mentoring the students that would stop by to help out. He will be lovingly remembered by many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Graveside Service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 2:00pm at the Debden Cemetery (bring your own lawn chair). Please join us in the basement of St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church immediately following the service.

In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of George to the Debden Heritage Manor (Box 608 Debden, SK S0J 0S0).
