George Mitchell 1921 – 2010. George Mitchell of Lily Plain died peacefully on November 23, 2010 at the Victoria Hospital with his family by his side at the age of 89 years. He was born on the homestead at Lily Plain and lived his whole life in the same yard. George will always be remembered for his hard work, sense of humour, strong faith, and commitment to those whom he loved. He took pride in watching his family, his legacy grow. All generations soon learned what the candy dish meant at grandpa’s house. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Beulah (Howrie); son Ivan (Melody) and their family Carla (Jason) Paulsen and their children Kadin, Kolton, Lief and Molly; Brett (Marina) Mitchell and their children Karstin, Elly and Bently; Erin (Martin) King and their daughter Rori; and Mackenzie (Lyle Adams) Mitchell and their children Corbin and Bella; son Eldon (Cathy) and their family Wade (Debbie Huskins) Mitchell and their children Colby and Teagan; Carrie (Jason) McCloy and their children Brayden and Ryley; Mindy (Michael) Green and their children Ethan, Bryce and Regen; and Kaytlyn Mitchell: daughter Heather (Forrest) Pocha and their family Jodi (Carey) Letendre and their children Andrew, Tessa and Geordy; and Derrick (Sarah) Pocha and their children Darby and Marly. He is also survived by Beulah’s siblings Cyril (Helen) Howrie and Thelma Sinclair as well as numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents George and Christina Mitchell; his sister Dorothy; brothers-in-law Leroy Ede, Raymond Sinclair and Merrill Howrie and two infant great grandsons Legend Paulsen and Carson McCloy. A Memorial Service to celebrate George’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 26, 2010 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation-Palliative Care Unit, 1200 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5T4.
