George Hambleton

It is with great sadness that the family of Frederick George Hambleton announce his passing on Monday, May 18, 2020, at Mont St. Joseph Nursing Home, in Prince Albert, SK.
George was born on Thursday, July 18, 1946, in Prince Albert, SK. He was the second of Hugh and Myrtle Hambleton’s three children. Attending Prince Charles Elementary before graduating from Riverside High School; many of his most cherished times growing up were summers spent at Emma Lake.
After graduation George spent time as a reporter for the Daily Herald Newspaper before working as a surveyor along the Alaska Highway. A position with the Department of Highways would bring him back to Saskatchewan in 1968. Later that year he would apply to the University of SK and embark on his dream of becoming a teacher.
George met his future wife, Gayle Webb, while attending University and they were married in Saskatoon in August 1970. George took his first teaching position in 1971; in a small town called Stenen. After Gayle finished University they both received positions teaching in Big River where they would also begin their family with the birth of their first born child (Christine) in 1976. In 1978 the family moved to Meadow Lake where their second child (David) was born in 1979. George and his family moved to Prince Albert in 1980 and George began working as an academic instructor at the Prince Albert Penitentiary. In 1982 his third child (Gwen) was born and his last child (Kenny) was born in 1985.
When the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Technology (SIAST) opened George took a position with them as an Educational Instructor; where he taught until his retirement in 2005. His teaching career spanned more than 30 years and he never lost his passion for educating. He cared deeply about his students and as an educator he had a positive impact on countless lives.
During his life he enjoyed many past-times including golf, bowling, curling, fishing, camping, & hunting. He was a proud member of both the ANAVETS and Legion for many years. He cherished time with his children, especially time at the lake, and he loved the many vacations he took with his wife throughout Western Canada & the United States.
George is survived by his wife Gayle Hambleton; their four children and spouses, Christine Hambleton (Glenn Rupert), David Hambleton, Gwen Hambleton (Rene Krieg), Kenny Hambleton (Lisa Stahl); and seven grandchildren, Shauntal, Kai, Tianna, Willow, Sidney, Hugh, and Daxon; his two sisters and their spouses, Joyce Nordlund (Richard), and Jean Palidwar (Steve). He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Myrtle Hambleton.
George had many passions in life but he will be remembered most for his lifelong dedication to learning, teaching, and family. A Funeral Service for George will be held at a later date.
