George Flemming
George died at Saskatoon, SK on February 22, 2012.
George was born to Michael and Helen (Despres) Flemming in New Waterford on July 10, 1935.
George is survived by his wife Norma; daughter Sharon (Steve Draper) of Ohio, USA; his son, George (Michelle) and his grandchildren Maren, Benjamin and AVa of Calgary, AB; and his brother Michael (Jean) of Sydney.
George was predeceased by his siblings, Carmel Kosman, Leila Given Hart, Barbara, Charles, Raymond (surviving widow Betty), Ian ‘Nip’ (surviving widow Margie), and Marcia Coleman.
At age 16 George joined the Canadian Army and for the next twelve years served at several posts in Canada as well as Korea and with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Egypt. In 2000, George was selected to receive the inaugural Peacekeeping Service Medal from the Governor General in Ottawa. As well, George was awarded the Korea volunteer service medal, and the United Nations Emergency Force medal. Upon release from the Armed Forces in 1963, George commenced a career in industrial sales, starting in Thompson, Manitoba and continuing to Saskatooon. Retiring from sales in 1990 in Saskatoon, George joined the Corps of Commissionaires where he served several positions over the next nineteen years. George enjoyed music of all kinds but most especially classical and his favourite singer was Luciano Pavarotti. During the time in Thompson, George acted and sang in several productions for the Thompson Playhouse, an amateur theatre group, which he enjoyed very much. George loved and was very proud of h is children and was absolutely delighted with his grandchildren.
Friends are invited to gather at the Royal Canadian Legion club house on Louise St. for a come-and-go lunch and sharing of memories on Friday, March 9th from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The family wishes to provide special thanks to Dr. A.J. Harrington for his medical care as well as the home care staff who cared for George over the time of his illness.
