George Ewert
We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather George Ewert at the Victoria Hospital, on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. George was born November 23, 1924. He was raised and attended school in the Silver Grove district. George farmed for a few years, and later joined the Saskatchewan Smoke Jumpers for three years. He met his wife Ellen in La Ronge and they were married June 21, 1958. He then worked for Saskatchewan Government Airways in La Ronge and for many years in various locations in northern Saskatchewan as a wildlife and fisheries officer with the Department of Natural Resources. He took the position as a park maintenance foreman with the North Battleford Provincial Park. He spent two years as a constable with the North Battleford City Police. At that time he moved to Prince Albert to work with the Department of Natural Resources, and in 1968 joined the warden service at Prince Albert National Park. He served in various districts including Waskesiu, Sturgeon Crossing, Southend and Kingsmere Lake. Upon retirement in 1991 he worked for the Commissionaires. After retirement George enjoyed spending more time at the cabin at Candle Lake taking the family and grandchildren fishing and enjoying the outdoors. George also was an avid hunter and enjoyed trapping in his spare time. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Ellen of 54 years; his daughter Susan (Bruce) Wasylak; his son Brent (Sara) Ewert; his grandchildren Alicia Wasylak, Michael Wasylak, Katarina Ewert and Connor Ewert; his step-grandchild Dale McKenzie; his mother-in-law Mildred Moore; his sister-in-law Florence (Ed) Drangsholt and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Gerhard and Maria Ewert; brothers and spouses Jack (Rose) Ewert, Abe (Margaret) Ewert and Will (Irene) Ewert and his father-in-law Bliss Moore. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 1351 – 28th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with The Reverend Mike Engbers officiating. Interment will take place in the Garden of the Last Supper, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made in George's memory to the First Baptist Church New Development Fund c/o First Baptist Church, 1351 – 28th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 6T4 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
