BASSETT-George Benjamin, late of Prince Albert, SK passed away January 11, 2011 in Prince Albert at the age of 97 years. He was born on June 14, 1913 in Prince Albert. George is survived by his children Don (Wendy) Bassett, Arlene (Gerry) Huber, Georgina (George) McHenry and Terry Barber; sister Pam Munro; brother Austin and his supportive friend Muriel Tooley; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. George was predeceased by his wife Betty; daughter Margaret Rutz; son-in-law Gordon Rutz; brothers Fred and Herb Bassett. His year of work included time spent at Prince Albert National Park helping clear land for the first nine holes, Prince Albert Box Factory, Railroad B&B and the Dairy and Poultry Pool, where he will be most remembered for his interest and service to his many friends and customers. He served his community as president of the Heritage Centre, and president of the Social Community at the Columbia Centre. He organized many senior traveling and fund raising events. His involvement in his community was recognized with many awards such as, Mr. Winter Festival, Rotary Courtesy Awards, Safe Driving Awards and others. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the donor’s choice. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Northern Funeral Service-MacKenzie Chapel, 130-9th Street East with Rev. Chris Harper officiating.
