Peter Larry “Gene” Chorney, late of Gronlid, SK, passed away on December 6, 2015 in his home on the farm, with his family by his side, at the age of 65 years. Gene was born on November 18, 1950 in Melfort, SK to Harry and Pauline (nee Kinar) Chorney. Gene began his education in 1956 at Freedom School, and finished his schooling in Gronlid. In 1970 he worked at Lynn Lake Copper Mine and Snow Lake Mine. The following summer Gene returned home to help farm with his Dad, which he took over in 1987. While working at the farm, Gene worked at the Coop Feed mill in Melfort. Gene met Judy (Stobbs) from Birch Hills, SK in 1971. They were married on August 9, 1975. They have three children: Chelsea, Chad, and Codie. Gene had many interests such as: playing fastball with the Gronlid Flyers, coaching hockey in Gronlid, watching his Toronto Maple Leafs and Saskatchewan Roughriders, telling jokes, and playing cards. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his three grandchildren. Judy and Gene moved to the family farm in 2010, where they both retired. Gene will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Judy, his daughter Chelsea (Trent) Lasiuk and their son Harrison, his son Chad (Carley) Chorney and their daughters: Graycen and Emersen; his son Codie (Morgan Millar) Chorney; his brother Karpo (Norma) Chorney, his brother-in-law: Brian (Bev) Stobbs, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was predeceased by his parents: Harry and Pauline Chorney; and Judy’s parents: Elwin and Irene Stobbs. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church Cemetery. The Funeral Service for Gene will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 – 10:00 am, Ukrainian Orthodox Church of All Saints, 807 Main St N, Melfort, SK. Interment to follow at the St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Cemetery, Gronlid, SK. A fellowship lunch will be held following the interment, at the Gronlid Hall, Gronlid, SK.
