It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garry Donald Jackson at the young age of 57 after a courageous battle with liver disease. He passed away with his family by his side in Regina on July 22, 2012. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Trudy of 38 years; their two children, Chantelle (Trent) Ollivier and Cory (Lori) Jackson, and their grandchildren, Drayden, Conner and Caitlyn, an endless source of pride & joy. He is also survived by his siblings, George (Margaret) , Norman (Dianne), Phyllis (Dennis) Vera, Bob, Jeannie Gerski and his special twin brother Terry (Kelly); his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lloyd & Kathleen Olson; sister-in-law, Connie (Lloyd) Haugerud; brothers-in-law, Arnell (Tammie) Olson and Randy Olson; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Garry enjoyed his regular phone calls with many of his family all over Saskatchewan and Alberta. Greeting him at Heaven’s Gate are his parents, Raymond and Mina Jackson; his sister, Doris Spencer; brother-in-law, Louis Brothwell and great niece, Riece Toutant. Thank you so much to the special friends: Charlie & Susan Cullen, Karen & the late Dan Seifert, Marty & Adina Wekerle and the rest of the extended “Plentywood Camping Family.” As well as special neighbors, Dick, Rich & Patti, and Tony & Colleen who all provided the much needed support and courage to help him through his last year. Garry started his career with the Government of Saskatchewan in Government Services in Melfort ending it in the Walter Scott Building in Regina. He was very proud of his 35 years of service to his “building clients” and his family is equally proud as they are often reminded by his co-workers just how invaluable his services were. A special thank-you to the Liver Transplant assessment team in Edmonton as they gave him the confidence and courage needed to stay strong while waiting for a liver transplant. Sadly for Garry, the list of willing organ donors is far too limited. It is with this in mind that we strongly encourage all to commit to being an organ donor. More information can be found at www.isanorgandonor.com. Although Garry’s disease was a direct result of hemochromatosis and not cancer, the favorite charity of the family is the Little Bald Angels (www.littlebaldangels.org). Those wishing to donate in his memory are asked to consider this charity.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2015 4th Ave. N., Regina, SK with Pastor Ted Giese officiating. Interment to be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Melfort, SK.
