It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Garry Dale Brown age 71 on August 8, 2016 with family by his side after a lengthy battle with cancer. Garry was born in Prince Albert on July 16, 1945 to Walter and Alma Brown. Growing up, Garry resided in Montreal Lake, Christopher Lake, Uranium City and back to Christopher Lake. In 1966 Garry met the love of his life, Beverley. They were married in 1968 and resided in Prince Albert where they started their family. Terry was born in 1969 and Merredy in 1972. Garry loved to be with his family and enjoyed and loved them all. Garry loved the outdoors, especially camping, fishing and golfing with his family and friends. Garry’s love of people and nature included him becoming a Scouts Canada leader for 10 years. Garry started his working career at the Prince Albert Foundry in 1968 until its closing and sale to P.A. Metal Fab until 1980. He then had a 5-month contract with Precision Service. After that he moved on to a gold mine in Lupin, NWT where he had a shift of 6 weeks in and 2 weeks home for a period of one year. In 1982 he found employment at the Codette Dam near Nipawin as a pressure welder for Interwest Mechanical while looking for more permanent work. In 1983 he started with Key Lake uranium mine as a pressure welder and heavy duty maintenance welder, a passion that he loved and excelled at. Garry always fought hard for the rights of his fellow employees and was part of the executive of the C&G Workers and United Steel Workers of America. Garry retired in 2010. Garry especially enjoyed the four years he mowed grass at the Waskesiu Golf Course. In Garry’s four years, he cherished the many golfers and co-workers he met and worked with. Garry is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Beverley Brown (nee Brook); his daughter Merredy (Curtis) Chubey, grandson Conner and granddaughter Brooke; his daughter-in-law Roxanne Murphy (Larry Vansil); grandsons Jason, Jeffrey, Jared and great grandson Kale.; sister Edith Thompson; brother Ivan (Francis) Brown; sister-in-law Marj Brown; mother-in-law Ivie Brook; brothers-in-law Richard Brook (Jean) and Russell (Doreen) Brook; sister-in-law Marion (Bob) Telfer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Garry was predeceased by: his son Terry; parents Walter Brown, Alma Holder and step-father Howard Holder; father-in-law Cyril Brook; brothers Robert, John and Lawrence; sisters-in-law Carol Brown and Arlene Brook. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Chris Dow officiating, assisted by lay reader Lynn Meachem. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
