Freda Paul
1928 ~ 2024
Freda Paul, born September 10, 1928, to Joseph and Emma Nelson at Broderick, Saskatchewan. The family moved to the Hagen district where Freda took most of her elementary schooling. Later moving to Prince Albert, she attended PACI.
In 1949 she married Leland Paul, and they moved to Vernon, British Columbia. They also lived for two years in Calgary before returning to the Paul family farm near MacDowall, Saskatchewan. Freda worked on the farm and raised their son. She later worked in Prince Albert as a bookkeeper until her retirement. For many years their social life evolved around square dancing – they travelled Saskatchewan, and many other Canadian provinces and the Northwest United States enjoying this pastime. They spent several years on the executive of the Saskatchewan Square Dance Federation and several of those years as secretary couple. In 2008 they were presented with the Long Service Award from the Canadian Square & Round Dance Society.
In 2015 Freda moved from the family farm to Caleb Village where she enjoyed socializing and reconnecting with friends. She enjoyed playing cards and reminiscing. In 2023, Freda’s memory started to fail, and she needed extra care and moved to River Breeze where she remained free of aches and pains. Freda spent the last few weeks in the Victoria Hospital and her final days at Rose Garden Hospice, where she passed peacefully with family by her side on August 17, 2024, at the age of 95. A special thank you to the staff of Rose Garden Hospice who provided Freda and our family with great care and compassion in her final days.
Freda leaves to mourn her son, Alexander (Tammy) Paul; and one grandson, Bradley (Alexis) Paul; two granddaughters, Rylee McKay, and Jaymie McKay; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leland of 60 years in 2009; her siblings, Conrad (Inez) Nelson, Blanche (Alf) Moxness, Arnold (Winnie) Nelson, Milfred (Ruby) Nelson, Lydia (Jake) Twyver; her sisters-in-law, Gladys (Ross) Giles and Agnes (Gordon) Grosskleg; and her brother-in-law, Donald (Betty) Paul.
A private family interment will be held at a later date. In-lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Rose Garden Hospice.
