September 23, 1932 – January 19, 2012
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on January 19, 2012 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK. Fred was 79 years old. He was born to Albert and Ethel Woodley on September 23, 1932 at the old Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK. He lived with his parents and five siblings on a farm in the Spruce Home area and attended the Wheatly School. Fred moved to Prince Albert in 1949 and started his long career at Modern Motors in 1950. He met his loving wife, Lena Balon, shortly after and they were married in 1955. Their only child, Brenda was born in 1963. Fred was a hard worker and dedicated family man. He worked 24 years at Modern Motors and left in 1974 to start his second career with the Prince Albert Public School Division. He very proudly worked as the head caretaker at Arthur Pechey School until his retirement in 1993. Throughout the years Fred enjoyed travelling to the mountains with his family and he simply loved being at home, working on his cars or in the yard. Fred also enjoyed hunting and fishing which he pursued more in his retirement. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his only granddaughter Maya. Maya and her poppa shared many happy moments together. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lena; daughter Brenda (Mike Tourigny) of Saskatoon; granddaughter Maya; sister Dorothy Mah of Prince Albert; brother Colin (Doreen) Woodley of Prince Albert and brother Raymond (Betty) of Edmonton. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. We will miss him terribly. Fred was predeceased by his parents Ethel and Albert Woodley; his brother Jack Woodley and sister Joyce Ellison. The Remembrance Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Calvary United Church, 114 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress and Pastor Dennis Serfas, Director Spiritual Care, Prince Albert Parkland Health Region officiating.
