Fred Sorenson– It is with great sadness that the Sorenson family announces the passing of a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and a brother. Fred was born February 28th, 1928 in Paddockwood and passed away peacefully on April 17th, 2012 in Saskatoon. Fred attended school at Elk Home School in Paddockwood District. After school he worked on the family farm and later moved to Prince Albert in 1943 to work odd jobs until 1958 when he started at the Molson Brewery. He worked there for 28 years until his retirement. Fred enjoyed all sports including hunting and fishing but most of All watching the Prince Albert Minto’s. He also loved camping with family and played fast ball in the 1950’s, including playing with the senior men’s all stars in 1956 and 1957. He also has trophies in bowling, fishing, golf, hockey, and horseshoes. He won the provincial horseshoe championship 7 times.
In 1950 Fred married the love of his life Florence Stevens in Prince Albert. They went on to raise a family of eight, four sons and four daughters. Fred is survived by his children Les (Deb) Sorenson of Nipawin, Sid (Linda) Sorenson of Peter Pond, Pat (Gordie) Gibb of Prince Albert, Donna (Jim) Starner of Dlameny, Loreen (Rod) Krein of Leader, Leanne (Brent) Davis of Prince Albert, and his buddy Diggy that he adopted from the SPCA in November. He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Fred is also survived by his sister Mabel Bird, brothers Gillman Sorenson and Arnold (Merle) Chester, sisters in law Daisy and Louisa Chester, Lottie Sorenson, Pearl Olson, Dorothy Huculiak, Eleanor Stevens, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fred was pre-deceased by his wife Florence, son Lorne (in infancy) and son Sam, parents Samuel and Selvina Sorenson, sisters Gladys Sjoberg and Alice Judd, brothers Siebert and Melvyn Sorenson, Willard, Walter, and Harold Chester, his in laws William and Elizabeth Stevens, brothers in law Pete Huculiak, Jack, Jim and Chappy Stevens and Colin Bird, sisters in law Eva Sorenson and Doris Chester, granddaughter Kimberly Sorenson and great granddaughter Kirsten Harris.
