September 22, 2012
Fred Theodore Paskaruk passed away quietly on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at home surrounded by his family “Sweet is the sleep that ended the pain, we would not wake you to suffer again.” Fred was born in Gardenton, MB, the oldest of 10 children to Maria and Nicholai Paskaruk and moved to the Kalyna area near Prince Albert in 1915. He received his schooling at the David School in Samburg and worked on the farm until he got employment at PA Lumber Co. and North American Lumber Co. in Prince Albert where he built and pre-fabed many homes. Fred met Mary Kacuiba and they enjoyed going to many dances together and he would walk 7 1/5 miles every day to see her. They were married in 1934 in Strong Pine and had three daughters Alice, Vera and Nadia. Fred was very active in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church holding the position of Church president numerous times, sang in the choir every Sunday faithfully from the time he could walk. Fred loved his family more anything, he loved to tell stories and jokes and predicted the weather, which he was good at. He loved to cook and grow his own garden every year, loved playing musical instruments especially the tsymbaly (piano harp) which he built himself. Fred was very active in his younger days acting in plays, playing baseball and anything he could do with his family. He took care of his wife for 18 years making a perfect example of what a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather was all about. Fred is special person we cannot replace. Every moment and memory will be cherished forever. God bless you and we love you!
