Fred McKay, late of Shell Lake, and formerly of Prince Albert, passed away on May 16, 2020 in Spiritwood at the age of 79 years. As a young man Fred was very active in sports and was the best “bat catcher” in the league! He enjoyed dancing and liked to tell jokes with one often leading to another. Fred enjoyed fishing, cooking, sewing, playing cards and visiting with friends – both old and new. A carpenter by trade, Fred was always there to help out. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Daisy McKay; his brother, Jim McKay; his sister Isabelle Harris; the mother of his children, Vi McKay and his best Lorne Nelson. Fred is survived by: his children, Charlene (Jeff Schierer) and daughters, Kristen, Kimberly and Kaitlin; Rodney McKay and children, Kyle, Nicole and J.T; Sandra Hamonic and children, Ryan and Alexandra; his siblings, Jean Hewitt, Norman McKay, Linda McKinnon and Shirley Otterbein. He will be greatly missed by his birth family, Natalie and Kenny Paul and friends from Shell Lake, and all those who knew him. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff that cared for Fred. A joint Graveside Service will be held for Fred and his late sister, Isabelle Harris (nee McKay) at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at St. Mary’s Anglican Cemetery, Prince Albert.
