It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Francois Jean Rivest, he leaves to mourn, his wife Helen (Power); daughters Natalie and Jaime (Steven Remple) and his only grandchild Oliver Remple. He is survived by his mother Madeleine of Montreal; sisters Suzanne and Lucie and brother Denis all of Montreal; mother-in-law Marion Power; sisters-in-law Pat Power and Sandra Power; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Raymond; father-in-law Jim Power and brother-in-law Tom Power. Francois was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. He spent several years in the United States including living in Santa Fe, New Mexico prior to moving and settling in Calgary, Alberta. Francois started as a Calgary Fire Fighter in 1981 retiring in March 2009. He was passionate about his career spending the last nine years as a training officer. He was particularity proud of being an educator, training over 700 recruits and was involved with many of the positive changes to the training program. He loved the outdoors and all the activities including hiking, biking, canoeing and was a health enthusiast. Francois and his wife Helen spent the last seven years enjoying extensive travel through Europe the US and Canada as well as wintering in Mexico. A Celebration of Life will be on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Grays Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Dr. Norbert Haukenfrers officiating. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Calgary Burn Treatment Society, 2234 – 30th Avenue N.E Calgary, Alberta T2E 7K9 (www.cfbts.org).
