Francis Victor Maertens-Poole
July 18, 1933 – July 1, 2013
The family of Frank are sad to announce his passing after a brief illness at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on July 1st at the age of 79. He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years Vilda (vanNes); daughter Leslie-Anne (Barry) Feland; grandchildren Kylee, Alison and great granddaughter Anna-Elizabeth; sister Eleanor (Dennis) Karras; brother Roland (Beverly) Maertens-Poole; sister Barbara (Bill) Wotherspoon; sister-in-law Joan (Jerry) Hammersmith; life-long friend George Whitter as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Frank was born in Prince Albert to Leslie and Aileen Maertens-Poole. He graduated from PACI at the age of 17 and went on to become a Journeyman Electrician until his retirement in 1998. He joined Boy-Scouts at the age of 2 (with his father of course) and played a large role in many of Prince Albert's youth's lives until he reached his mid 70's. He continued to act in an advisory role until his death. He so enjoyed fishing that he missed his high-school graduation to go with George. His pleasure continued through his life with many fishing adventures with Vilda and his sister and brother. He was an avid reader, leisurely snow-mobiler, amateur gardener, photographer and of course there were his “fish”. Frank and Vilda went on yearly vacations to the Canadian Pacific west coast, with the last happening this past September. They also had spontaneous drives; especially on Sundays which was their day. His granddaughters and great granddaughter were the lights of his life and he passed much of his love of nature on to them. It is difficult to write all that he did and what he enjoyed, so his family invite those that knew him to join us at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made payable to ICU c/o Victoria Hospital, 1220 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5T4. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
